About ‘Maps and More’
Maps and More is the place where I offer my services as a freelancer. I have been doing freelance work in the rpg hobby industry and as a web designer for some time now, and felt the need to have a central place to show of my work. Hopefully it will enable me to reach a few more people interested in my services.
About me
My name is Ralf Schemmann and I am a mid-thirtiesh guy living in Germany. I have a degree (German M.A.) in history, computer science and applied linguistics from our local university (University of Siegen) and I also studied for a while at the University of Stuttgart and the University of British Columbia (Vancouver).
Through the internet I came into contact with ProFantasy Software the makers of Campaign Cartographer 2 and started to do occasional freelance work for them and other companies in the rpg hobby industry. In 2001 I finally decided to quit my university job and try my hand at full-time freelancing.
About the tools I use
Campaign Cartographer 2
CC2 by ProFantasy Software is a CAD package specifically originally to draw maps and floorplans for games. It is based on a CAD engine (FastCAD by Evolution Computing) and has come a long way since its first incarnation as a mapping tool for DOS. I use its powerful vector drawing features not only for maps but for all kinds of graphics.
Paint Shop Pro
PSP by Jasc Software is my paint program of choice. It is easy to use and compares favorably in terms of price with other professional paint and draw applications. I often draw the basic shapes for my graphics in CC2 and use PSP for color effects and final touches.
Homesite 5
As I do my website programming directly in HTML as opposed to using a graphical interface, I need a good text-based editor. Homesite 5 by Macromedia (formerly Allaire) fits the bill perfectly. It has many convenient features without the ballast of a WYSIWYG interface.
